Airbnb’s ‘Icon’ Stays Let You Sleep in the X-Mansion

If staying inside Batman’s Bat Cave or a replica Haunted Mansion isn’t enough over-the-top bucket list fodder for you, Airbnb is upping its game.

The vacation rental site just released a new tier of experiences that will offer guests one-of-a-kind stays inside homes and spaces they’ve only imagined. The new “Icons” category includes experiences such as spending the night inside a real-life version of Carl Fredricksen’s floating yellow house from Pixar’s Up to being the first-ever to sleep inside the Clock Room at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.

Even cooler? Most of the stays are free (and if they’re not, they’re under $100)!

“We’ve been known as one thing for 15 years—which is a place to stay when you travel,” Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky told CBS News. “This is a new era for us. Because we’re doing more than just offering a place to stay; we’re going to be offering experiences and more. It starts with Icon.”

The only caveat: Scoring an Icon stay requires a little skill… and a lot of luck. Some applicants will be chosen at random; others will be chosen based on the merit of how they answer irreverent questions (“If your life were a movie, what would it be called?” “Name one of your most useless talents,” etc.). In total, 4,000 people will be chosen for the various experiences, according to an Airbnb press release.

In addition to the outrageous overnights, there are also once-in-a-lifetime experiences, including getting a living room concert from Grammy-winning artist Doja Cat and spending a night on the town with comedian Kevin Hart.

“I wanted to create a product that created some magic in the real world,” Chesky told CBS. “We started thinking, ‘What if these worlds that only existed in your imagination could suddenly become real.’”

Mind blown yet? Check out some of Airbnb’s new Icon Experiences (there are 11 on the site now; more will be released later in the year):
